Understanding Your Care

What is Interventional Radiology?

Interventional radiology (IR) uses advanced imaging — X-ray, ultrasound, CT, and MRI — to guide tiny instruments through small incisions to diagnose and treat disease throughout the body.

Most procedures require little to no general anesthesia, and patients often go home the same day. Think of it as surgery from the inside, with real-time imaging precision.

🩹
Minimally Invasive

Tiny incisions instead of open surgery — less scarring, less trauma.

🏠
Faster Recovery

Patients go home the same day and return to normal life sooner.

🎯
Precise & Targeted

Real-time imaging guides treatment exactly where it's needed.

💊
Lower Risk

Less anesthesia, less blood loss, and lower complication rates than traditional surgery.

What I Treat

Conditions & Treatments

Using minimally invasive, image-guided techniques, I treat a wide range of conditions. If you're unsure whether IR is right for you, I'm happy to discuss your options.

About Your Doctor

Meet Dr. Garbett

“My goal is always to find the least invasive path to the best possible outcome for each patient.”

Dr. Donald Garbett is a board-certified Vascular & Interventional Radiologist with a background that sets him apart from most physicians. Before earning his MD, he worked as a Registered Nurse at several major medical centers — including Northwestern Memorial and Cook County Hospital — and served as a Field Combat Medic in the U.S. Army National Guard.

That hands-on clinical foundation shapes how he practices today. He understands what it's like to care for patients at the bedside, not just from behind imaging screens. Every case is approached with both technical precision and genuine human care.

Dr. Garbett completed a competitive fellowship in Vascular & Interventional Radiology at Indiana University, served as Chief Resident at Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center, and is an active contributor to the published medical literature. He currently practices at Urology Austin and IR Centers in Austin, TX.
